AI in recruitment

September 24, 2024

The best businesses are always ready to adopt the latest technologies. AI is set to play an increasingly important role in recruitment as Julia Palmer-Randle, the Recruitment Business Manager at SVC Solutions, explains.

Artificial Intelligence is playing an increasing role in our lives from the pinpoint analysis of medical scans to turning the temperature down in smart homes and face recognition on our mobile phones.

And as the fast moving technology becomes more advanced, so we will see it taking on more and more tasks which, theoretically, will enhance our lives.

AI is already widely used in the world of recruitment, offering a helping hand to hard pressed recruiters searching for the perfect candidate for a job vacancy. And as time goes on and AI develops, it will become an even more important tool.

Let’s be honest… recruitment is challenging. It is so important to attract the right candidates for a job and to get a shortlist bursting with talent with the right skills and experience takes a considerable amount of time and energy.

Recruitment experts spend hours wading through applications and CVs before laboriously contacting the best applicants and arranging interviews.

However, many of these roles can be picked up by AI, freeing up hours (if not days) of recruiters’ valuable time.

AI’s involvement in the job recruitment process starts at the very first step. From a list of qualifications and requirements, it can summarise the role, create a job description with criteria, analytically set out what fundamental qualities are needed by prospective employees and write an engaging, comprehensive advert.

AI has the ability to analyse large amounts of data rapidly which helps to identify which applicants most closely match the job requirements, so weeding out unsuitable candidates quickly and efficiently.

Once the leading candidates have been selected, AI can be used to schedule interviews and answer online enquiries. This speedy and effective response also has the added bonus of creating a good impression of the recruiting company and this efficiency can ensure good candidates are not lost due to delays.

AI can also be used to proactively headhunt potential candidates, matching the job requirements to job seekers almost instantaneously. It can also be used to search a candidate’s online presence, such as their social media profiles, to assess whether the candidate is a good fit for the vacancy and the company.

AI’s usefulness in recruitment is undeniable. Its analytical credentials mean there is less subjectivity in appointments. But it should also be pointed out that AI cannot yet completely replace that intangible quality of the expertise of an experienced recruiter. That human touch is invaluable in gauging an applicant’s character, how they will integrate with the other members of the team and how much they could go on to contribute as an employee in the future. AI is an important tool in recruitment but it can’t take the place of a human…yet.
