Health and Safety requirements for UK businesses to reopen

Following the UK government road map out of lockdown announcement, it is important to prepare the workplace and your staff for reopening your business. This includes carrying out the Health and Safety checks.

What are the requirements for businesses to stay open?

We recommend the following Health and Safety checks carried out prior to reopening:

  • Workplace inspection – If you are returning to your premises after a sustained period, consider a workplace inspection before your employees return to work. This will give you a clear indication of elements that might need updating or replacing to ensure that employees are safe.
  • Risk Assessments – Are the risk assessments still suitable and sufficient for your work activities?
  • H&S Training – Is Health and Safety training up to date? Is there a requirement for new training to be carried out?
  • Emergency Procedures – Is first aid and fire equipment still in date? Ensure that employees are made aware of emergency procedures.

When can my business reopen?

According to the latest information, different business types will reopen at different stages. The below table shows the expected timeline set out by the government. We recommend that you ensure all Health and Safety checks are done before the re-opening date to ensure your business is compliant and prevent fines or closure.
